Adrian Briones is the author of Australia's First Filipino Cookbook. Since its official April 2012 release, it has landed in the Bookdepository.com Best Sellers and recently won Best Asian Cuisine Book (Australia) at the renowned 18th  Gourmand World Cookbook Awards.

Adrian has been featured in SBS Food, The Herald Sun, Food and Travel, The Melting Pot, BBC Radio, SBS Radio, HomeAway, MTV online and Be@Home and writes for the award winning food blog foodrehab.com.au.

Born in the 'Culinary Capital' of the Philippines, San Fernando, Pampanga, Adrian describes Filipino food as 'Asian Soul Food' and spent two years writing his first book What The Heck Is Filipino Food? A Beginner's Guide to Filipino Cooking, to break the ice about Filipino food and its mystery in Australia so to speak; where there are hardly any Filipino restaurants.

The book stands as a tribute to Adrian's mum who taught him how to cook and her infamous secret recipes that have had many people drooling not too mention queuing for years and is filled with childhood stories as well as a humorous take on Filipino history.

In addition to being a super easy guide to traditional Filipino cooking and culture, there are a few twists on the classics from Pulled Pork Adobo Pie to Frenchy Filipino Toast with Maple Butter - taking traditional recipes into the 21st century. It also includes incredible photography taken in the Philippines.

The book has the look and feel of a comic book complete with flashy quote boxes, superhero fonts, cartoon characters and an in depth glossary which describes many of the ingredients that you may not know of that is used in Philippine cuisine. Certainly not your average cookbook. There are two chapters in the book with one chapter on Merienda (snacks/light meals) and another focusing on the larger meals/mains, very much in the same vain as how Filipino's spread out their meals throughout the day.

You will learn how to make many incredible and fragrant 'kapampangan' dishes from scratch using simple techniques, fresh produce and ingredients that may already be in your pantry.

Good Food, Classic Recipes & the Remarkable Story of Hawai'i's Mixed Plate

Kau kau: It's the all-purpose pidgin word for food, probably derived from the Chinese "chow chow." On Hawai'i's sugar and pineapple plantations, kau kau came to encompass the amazing range of foods brought to the Islands by immigrant laborers from East and West: Japanese, Portuguese, Filipinos, Puerto Ricans, Koreans and others. On the plantations, lunch break was "kau kau time," and the kau kau could be anything from adobo to chow fun to tsukemono.

In Kau Kau: Cuisine and Culture in the Hawaiian Islands, author Arnold Hiura—a writer with roots in the plantation culture—explores the rich history and heritage of food in Hawai'i, with little-known culinary tidbits, interviews with chefs and farmers, and a treasury of rare photos and illustrations.

The original Mrs. Hawaii’s Cookbook was first published in 1964. Realizing the need for a “family style” cookbook with a cosmopolitan flavor and simple yet mouth – watering recipes, Laurie Bachran, Mrs. Hawaii 1963, has put together the ones she thinks are the very best she has ever tried or tasted.

Through the illness of a dear friend, she was made aware of the importance of preventative medicine through proper nutrition and education. In this revised edition of Mrs. Hawaii’s New Cookbook , there is a Health Recipe Section that she hopes will encourage you to live a new healthy lifestyle.

For the “gourmet touch” , she has been privileged to publish the specialties of some of our top island restaurants. These you can try for that extra special dinner.
So mothers, instead of lamenting, “What shall I cook today?”
lets say, “E hele mai ai!” or “Come let’s eat!”

A surprise to those unfamiliar with the Philippines is the great geographical diversity of the Islands and their six major culinary regions. Gerry Gelle's contribution to our understanding of this diversity is his knowledge of these regions. His recipes include the mountain and coastal regions of Northern Luzon and the many islands of the Visayas and the island of Mindanao. We learn of the rich mixtures of people, from the Pangasinans of Luzon with their specialty of "cultured" fish, to the Tagalogs, who use vinegar and fruits to give their dishes the preferred sour taste. He explains the use of guinamos, a paste of fermented shrimp or fish in the Visayas, and the use of hot chilies and spices to make curry in Mindanao. After cooking with these recipes, you will know the aromas and tastes of Filipino cooking.

"Although he gives a culinary geography lesson of the spread-out islands that make up the Philippines, Gelle says 'the book was written from a Filipino-American point of view, not a Filipino point of view.' Thus, the recipes sometimes have been modified to fit both American ingredients and the Americanized tastes of those born and raised in this country. The recipes are no less authentic for being adapted."-San Francisco Chronicle

"There are far too few Filipino cookbooks on the market; most competitors appearing in non-durable paperback which may not survive the rigors of library lending. This solid hardcover is perfect for a library's ethnic cookbook collection: over 200 recipes complete with a selection of fine color photos embellish an in-depth reference to the cuisine of many Philippine islands. Included are an index and glossary, plus plenty of cultural references."-The Bookwatch

Australians first confronted the oddities of their national cuisine when this gastronomic classic appeared 25 years ago. Because Australia never had a peasant farming class with local cooking customs, the book explains, camp food became the mainstay of the Aussie dining tradition. Portable weekly rations of mutton, flour, and tea had turned the early settlers into a mobile army, and their suburbanite descendants still survive on tins of jam, condensed milk, camp pie, and beer. A cry for action, the book successfully launched a new Australian taste for fresh produce, farm markets, and international flavors more than two decades—one that still exists today.
